My Story
Read on for a bit of my artistic background and my thoughts on photography as an art form.
Then And Now
I received a camera as a Christmas present when I was in high school and soon began exploring how to tell stories with images. When I took a photography class in college, our final project was a "photo essay." I chose to show the disparate lives of the “haves and the have-nots” in my college town, each community segregated by a local waterway. The project was called "The Bridge Between” and it was the first time I realized how photographs could evoke emotions and communicate a narrative in a way that words could not.
Since that college assignment many years ago, a few things have changed: technology, my skill level, and my artistic interests and inspiration. I now pursue fine art nature photography which can range between such diverse subjects as grand mountain vistas to intimate impressionistic seaside scenes. Regardless of the subject or technique used, I'm still trying to tell a story - to somehow capture with my camera the "visual voice" of what I'm witnessing. And to this day, the hardest part of it all is just being quiet and listening for that voice.
The Gear I Use
For those interested in the equipment I use to make photographs, read below.
Cameras
After starting with a Pentax K100 and migrating to using exclusively Canon gear, I eventually shifted to using mirrorless cameras. I know shoot using the Fuji GFX system. I currently use a GFX100ii and ad GFX 100s. I appreciate the increased image resolution (100mp) to make large prints and/or enhanced cropping.
Tripod
I do most of photography while traveling so a light carbon-fiber tripod is a necessity. I now use a Gitzo 2545T with a Really Right Stuff Ballhead (BH-40)
Bag & Filters
Like many photographers, I have a bag fetish. With that said, my favorite travel camera bag is the Gura Gear Kiboko 22L. I’ve also used numerous filter systems (mostly Lee), but I’m now trying out the Kase Armour system.
Wherever You Go There You Are!
Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts.

Photography, to me, is about lines and light.
I need both of them to make a good photograph.
